The Capuchin Library in the Capuchin Monastery

The Capuchin Library, among many treasures, houses the original manuscript of the Škofja Loka Passion Play. In the library, a facsimile of this work is on display, along with a permanent exhibition about the Škofja Loka Passion Play and the Slovenian Capuchins.

The Capuchin monastery has had its own library since its establishment in 1709. It houses approximately 5,000 items from the old collection, designated as cultural monuments, and 24,000 items from the newer collection. In 1876, after the closure of the Capuchin monastery in Kranj, the volume of preserved works significantly increased.

Specially precious are incunabulas (Latin: incunabula; a book, its individual pages, or images printed before the year 1500), with the oldest among them, dating back to 1473.

Among other things, there is a permanent exhibition titled Škofja Loka Passion Play, prepared by the Skofja Loka Museum Society, copper reliefs of Passion scenes by the local artist Vinko Mohorčič, and a presentation on the activities of the Slovenian Capuchins.
