Identity / Brand

Studio Miklavc designed a strong and recognizable identity for communication and marketing purposes, which derives its appearance from the symbolism of passion.

It is one of the most consistent overall images in the field of culture in Slovenia. In Studio Miklavc, they designed the passion sign, illustrations and typefaces, as well as many printed materials.

The Passion sign consists of a circular image representing a path with thirteen original images (outer points) and seven added scenes (inner points). The breaking of the circle illustrates the beginning and end of the passion procession, or the broader concept of time in Western culture, which is linear, unlike the Eastern one, which is cyclical. At the same time, the circular image represents Christ’s crown of thorns, which in itself has strong symbolism. A cross is inserted diagonally in the middle of the crown, which speaks of the dynamics or movement of the procession, and the silhouette of the cross also outlines the figure in a stylized way. The entire composition forms a stylized letter P. The frame of the sign represents the space, the place where the Škofjelo Passion is performed and the scenography, and the entire sign is artistically unified. A strong Latin inscription represents the path, and the chosen typography is close to the handwriting of Father Romualdo. The Slovenian inscription represents a multitude of actors in a procession. The year 1721 marks the time of the recording of the Škofjelok Passion, and the year 1999 marks the first performance that fully followed the original.
